    When you need to look good in the field!
    For all the gorgeous women on my LJ friends list who like corsets but worry about where they are going to place their grenades, magazines, pistol holsters and pepper spray while dressed up for a night at the club I give you...

    I for one think this is unbeleivably cool... but then I'm a dirty old man!

    The weekend
    So passes another weekend... but thankfully not another RP Campaign. The players survived but it was a close run thing at the point where there were only 2 characters standing and three oposition teams still to work through. Hopefully now they have all their equipment back and a funncast of supporting NPCs in tow they should be able to complete what I have lined up for the next few months without too much difficulty.

    Other than that the weekend was fairly uneventful got a few more miniatures painted up, did the shopping, tidied a bit.

    Hopefully this week should be calm, next weekend nothing major planned so perhaps some time to cathc up on sleep?

    Who knows.

    Two posts in a day
    Today was also (apparently) annual review day. No-one thought to tell any off us we we're just ushered into a room one by one and told that there was no raise, no bonus, but thankfully also no sackings (atm any way). One person got promoted to Senior H&S consultant, not me but then I'm not sure I'd want the responsibility for running the safety side of the business... Training side is another matter but that's not yet big enough to need a grand vice arch duke.

    So, still got a job but no extra cash.

    Friday at last

    Been a few days since my last post so in the spirit of trying to keep some sort of record of my daily life I guess I should put fingers to keyboard.

    This week has mostly been about the travel again. Northampton wednesday to teach a bunch of guys how to fit safety nets to the outside of a building. Bristol on Wednesday to try to bring some semblance of order to a site there and then Birmingham yesterday to do the same. The Bristol site is an interesting one as I am there not just for one of the sub-contractors but also for the Principal Contractor. It means that sometimes I see things on site and, officially, I should report them to myself for action by my client... It's quite schitzophrenic having to complain to yourself!

    This week has not been helped by one of our workers putting himself off for a month by falling from a piece of work equipment and breaking his leg. I'm still lacking details but it looks like he fell from something I've been telling them for a while isn't really the right tool for the job. Here's hoping the HSE are too snowed under to look in depth. On the plus side at least I did mention them rather than just letting it slide.

    Spent a night in a hotel in Brum, occasionally teasing [info]copper13  over MSN that I had pizza and she did not but other than that it was an uneventful night of uneventfulness that allowed me to spend some time plotting further the downfall of my RP Player Characters and jotting down some ideas for a Twilight 2000 LRP event I'd like to run.

    The weekend looms and should bring (with luck) a quiet Saturday of housework, shopping and miniature painting followed by a slightly more hectic sunday of gaming.

    Other than that its all business as usual.

    Teh Weekend

    A very busy one actually.

    Spent most of Saturday halping [info]boobook and [info]mrpyro shift their stuff to their new house which is, If I may say, a very nice property indeed.

    Sunday started with a disasterous shopping trip which successfully netted a new duvet cover and pillows but failed to locate sheets, a hand-held vacuum and a tin of grey spray paint... none of which are outlandishly unusual. Ok, I was a bit picky about the dustbuster and the sheets are not exactly standard (Superking fitted) but the paint was fairly basic. Once we had shopped we went back to Jo and Ian's old house to spend a few hours helping with the blitz clean and to deliver lunch. We would have stayed longer but it got to the stage where there were only a bout 2 tasks left and 6 people to do them and so we took are leave and headed away.

    The rest of the day has been mostly a day of nothing.

    The week ahead is starting out as looking fairly calm. Three days out and about and two in the office. Not bad... assuming it ddoesn;t get changed too much.

    Birmingham - Bristol - Birmingham

    Good evening all

    I have been somewhat lax of late in the field of livejournal updatery so I decided while sitting here in Brum waiting for an online chat to begin to spend a bit of time posting something worthwhile.

    All in all things are actually calming down a little and from a fiscal point of view we're actually better off now in the depths of the recession than we were 18 months ago when the world financial system was ticking over nicely. I guess we're bucking the trend a bit because prior to Christmas we were actually just a few weeks away from having to consider something drastic. As it is, touch wood, (somthing difficult to do in the formica filled world of a Travelodge hotel in Birmingham) we are now at the stage where I can afford to LARPing again as per my last update... though still not well off enough to consider £45 a fair price to pay to go and see a concert even if it is the classic Fleetwood Mac line up.

    Work has calmed down a little. The boss is now only shouting at people for having unassigned time on out weekly invoices every other week rather than every other day. I'm still out there on the jobs market but not activly looking.... though if something drops over my desk I'd still give it serious thought. Oh, and by calmed down I don't mean that it is not busy. The previous eight weeks have needed me soemthing like 8000 additional miles on the car (actual total to be determined this weekend when I do my last 2 months expenses) and only on 1 week has been less than 50 hours (and that one was last week where I only worked 3 days) I even managed 52 hours on early may bank holiday week

    I have managed to reduce my Battletech RP's forces to the point where they are now more combat effective on foot than they are in their mechs. Hopefully this shall be rectified soon but I am not yet 100% convinced.

    The book that I helped write is now out on the shelves (in in the US) and will hit these shores officially at the end of this month. It can be found for pre-order on Amazon. www.amazon.co.uk/Twilight-2013-Rules-Clayton-Oliver/dp/0982207409/ref=sr_1_1 As you may have gathered I'm a tad stoked about this. I'm already working on a couple of products to go with this and am in line for a few more credits in the next few months I think.

    Ermm... what else.... *Ponders*... Nothing I think so I shall leave you all to your evenings, or breakfasts, or morning coffees depending on when you're reading this.

    The weekend - Dropzone

    This weekend saw me attending my first major Lazer Tag even in over 5 years. The event is a three (ish) day long event held just outside of Welwyn Garden City. The event consisted of 4 games. The main one was "The Last Great Adventure" which was a time travelling Amazon adventure in which I was NPCing. The others were a game set in the universe of Frank Herbert's Dune, a game set in the Hellboy universe and a game set in the universe created by Gerry Anderson for series such as Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet.

    I'm not going to go into details of the events.... mostly because I'm not sure I could do it justice and partially because I spent much of the time as an NPC so didn;t see things from the player POV. However I have posted a few images to my flickr account for anyone interested in seeing some very strange people in some even stranger costumes

    There will also be more images here as people post them up. the first page and a bit are ones I took.

    50 essential Sci-Fi movies

    Stolen from [info]grok_mctanys

    bold = seen
    underline = more than once
    italics = loved it
    Strike = time I want back

    I've seen more of these than I expected to. I've not marked any as "Loved" because I'm not sure where I draw the line between liked and loved.... but if I've seen it multiple times then assume I liked it enought to watch it again (or I was bored and nothing else was on TV)

    Le Weekend
    Thankfully relaxing (for a given definition of relaxing) following an incredibly hectic week just gone. Had a veyr nice meal on Saturday evening at the home of [info]boobook and [info]mrpyro which involved a certain amount of steak, a certain amount of ice cream and a certain amount of geekery which made a nice end to a day spent doing housy stuff and painting more miniatures (I have an aim of trying to get my entire Battletech mini collection painted to a higher quality than some of them currently are before the end of the year).

    Sunday was the Battletech campaign so we had a house full of gamers for whom we provided a meal at the end of the day.

    Back at work again today but a nice, calm week for me this week and next week isn't, currently, looking too bad either.

    Day 3 = Monkseaton (Nr Whitley Bay)
    Miles to date = 998
    Hours spent talking = 4 and 2 shouting over a diesel engine.

    Friday tomorrow! Hurrah! Northampton to trian 6 people who already know as much on the subject as I do... the things we do for cash huh?

    But then the weekend... and battering my B-Tech players.

    Ermmmm.... Did I type that out loud?

    Day 2 = London (South Ockendon)
    Miles to date = 686
    Hours spent talking = 4 and a bit

    Voice not too bad and nose not as blocked today so cold may have been a false alarm! Hurrah

    Day 1
    Day 1 = London
    Miles to date = 343
    Hours spent talking = 4

    This is not going to be a good week. 4 training courses with a total of 20 hours talking, an estimated 1200 miles to travel and I've got a cold which is giving me a sore throat.

    Last week was about the same.

    On the plus side next week isn't looking too bad. Three office days and my semi-usual Bristol / Birmingham.

    I must discuss spreading the load out with my boss and the company admin!

    Ok.

    There is nothing specific planned in my callendar for this weekend and I have been promising to run a general gaming day for some people (Looking at [info]lucasdigital specifically) and so are people interested in a day of;

    Full Thrust (small fleet battle)
    Battletech (small unit actions)
    Anything else we have time for and want to try

    No specific day planned yet but a concensus of people interested will win the day. Anyone who is interested if a one of my regular gamers or not post here and I'll see what we can organise.

    The venue will be my house... unless we get many responses in which case I look for a larger venue.

    Shonky roofers.
    All the pointing under our roof is starting come loose. A piece very nearly missed our elderly neighbour today.

    Lets see if they are honest enough to come back and fix it less than 3 years after it went in.
